As you know I have been on this thread a while now and because of that I will naturally buy a very cheap, nobrand helmet with just one certificate because... well your logic eludes me. I have no idea why I would do that after reading every single post in this thread. I mean, come on. Your sense of superiority makes me sick

Romans stuck by their helmeted ways, arguing that their hardshell helmets might indeed provide more protection in cases such as scourging and crucifixion than, say, a crown of thorns and went on to prove as much to the bare-head Jesus.

The tone of the helmet thread is pretty much what I expect, but I was pretty surprised by my brief foray into the mechanic forum. By the time I realized I was elbow deep in a full-tilt internet ****-fight (over how to measure stem length, of all things) it was already too late for me to back out with any dignity. That was the last time I posted there...

Therein lies a crucial point, had Jesus been wearing a helmet the crown of thorns would have done no damage. The statistics proved back then that wearing a helmet while be attacked by thorns left the head unharmed.

And they could never hail Mary, she never drove a taxi cab nor owned a phone, and besides now she's dead, you can hail her all you want and she's not going to come running. Jesus said "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." He never once mentioned rendering or hailing anything to Mary.

There is also no need to cross yourself, Jesus already did that for us.

You fell into a trap -- trick statement: Roman hardshell helmet would not have helped with scourging or crucifixion, despite popular belief fostered by helmet manufacturers of the time, anymore than a bike helmet helps when you get tagged by a car doing 45mph.

Trap? I never mentioned the crucifixion or scourging simply the crown of thorns. It was proven that a helmet that passed the RGOH (Roman Government Organization for Helmets) compliance committee and had the label inside the helmet would protect the user from a crown of thorns. The crucifixion and scourging protection required the use of the scaled armor which worked better then the leather armor or none at all.

I would just love to ride my bike without a helmet, (locks blowing in the wind seem like a great thing) :bike2:.... But then some semblance of common sense comes to mind... And says something stupid like, You do know that something between the old head is better than nothing "if it (the old head) bounces off the pavement for some reason".... And OK, maybe, just maybe, it might not "save your life" but since 90% of all accidents seem to be non-life threatening, just annoying, or a "little bit" life debilitating, riding without a helmet would be OK... :twitchy:

Well, I think it's been clearly demonstrated that a helmet would have prevented Jesus' superficial thorn injuries, but would have been ineffective at saving his life. Thus ends the debate.

the first responders about what day it is, my name, who is the president.......I'm just not very good
at that stuff, so even if I have not suffered a concussion, I might end up in the ER.

I notice they are more likely to leave you alone after a short while if you were wearing a helmet when you crashed.

How often do you "crash" and/or get to notice what first responders do/don't do at bicycling crashes?

.......................try again, I spent a good part of my working life here with local fire, scraping up people after accidents. :p

Deb (my wife) dumped her bike in a freak low speed front wheel skid. She knew something was wrong right away, dragged herself to the sidewalk and awaited transport to a hospital. Quick diagnoses confirmed by X-rays, broken pelvis. So the orthopedist is called in, sees her and his first words on hearing it happened on her bike were "were you wearing a helmet". She wasn't, but replied, "uh, I don't think it would have made a difference down there".

BTW- she made a quick and full recovery, and was back on the bike within 3 months.

Yes pretty funny, then you must be referring to your own actions/inaction at accident scenes.
