Lets do a reality check here after over 7000 entries. To sum it up on one side we have a few very vocal anti helmet posters. All they have is a bunch of questionable research papers, and their own bias and personal opinions. On the other side we have cyclist like me that report real life accidents where helmets have saves us from injury.

IMO real life situations with out a doubt trump theory and bias. Ride safe and wear a helmet.

ryd, this is absolutely a two way street. The questionable research papers and bias are on both sides of this issue.

I do wear a helmet anytime I get on my bicycle. However, the shear numbers of "real life" crashes that DON'T involve a helmet or head strike go very much against this being viable evidence used to "trump" anything. It's a personal preference and applies only to me.

Gee-------------------my last post must have been too logical since it raised such hate and discontent from the anti helmet crowd. I guess maybe the truth hurts.

Again I am against MLHs, and I do not demand that everyone wear a helmet. I only contend that smart people do.

Try addressing the thread instead of posting personal attacks. On the internet forums that I am on, I have found that people that have no logical stand usually just post personal attacks.

When people post personal attacks it is an admission that they have lost the argument!!!!

We also have quite a few realistic people who post here and don't firmly fall into either a pro-helmet or anti-helmet camp. Some wear helmets, some don't.

The pro-helmet contingent also post questionable research papers based on their own bias and personal opinions.

No one has any idea in any given real life accident if a helmet did or did not save them from injury. And your statement to the contrary is the basic logical flaw most unreasonable pro-helmet members bring to this discussion.

Real life situations contribute to theory and bias; without real life situations to back you up, theory and bias fall apart. On both sides.

Ride safe whether you wear a helmet or not -- helmets have very little to do with riding safe.

Oh,? I think most people who had bounced their head off the pavement wearing a helmet would CERTAINLY say that the helmet did save them SOME injury, and it almost CERTAINLY did. Unfortunately they usually say something like it saved my life which gets scoffed at as it also almost CERTAINLY didn't, in most cases it probably saved a bump, a gash, or some road rash anyways, maybe a concussion... JMO

"Almost" certainly saved people from injury. "Probably" saved a bump, gash, or some road rash. "Maybe" [mitigated] a concussion.
