This happens to me a lot where I live, though no dog has ever bitten me. I once got an owner hollering at me because I squirted water out of my bottle at a dog that was not only chasing me, but leaping at me!! I mean really, what the hell. Some dog owners almost make you hate dogs.

The only time I ever used pepper spray I managed in my panic/zeal to spray myself in the face. I sure will not try to bite myself ever again. Lesson learned. The dog chasing my had little interest in my discomfort.
