This is like: "Gun laws do not reduce the severity of being shot at point blank range".

new study shows that people getting off their dam cell phones, and paying attention to where they are driving, reduces the number of crashes into bikes

so, what do you recommend for Dexter in front of King 5? In front of King 5 the road is close to 100 feet wide.... it's 4 lanes, parking and bikelane, parking strip and sidewalk both sides now.

road diet with an even wider buffered bikelane, or cycletrack?

The city isn't going to give this road, one of the major N/S routes into downtown Seattle, back to motorists and force cyclists to 'take the lane' in front of the vehicle traffic.

modern NA cycletrack is in the city's next bike master plan, which is why KING 5 is promoting this view on bike lanes perhaps?
100 ft wide, nice, now cram two ASSHTO BLs with standard ASSHTO parking on both sides on a 44ft two way street that is a main thoroughfare, with curves and speeds up to 40mph, that sees buses, semis, construction vehicles and truckzillas on a regular basis during my commutes.

What may be best in that case is an economic approach. That is, if the road is unsuitable for the traffic volumes, discourage economic activity along the route, to encourage use of other routes, or to crash land values so that it's possible to bulldoze and widen, then rebuild the economy in that area.

If you are referring to my scenario, no economics factor to consider along this route since it goes through a well established middle class neighborhood, with the only other alternate routes going through streets that are even narrower and residential as well.

Yes, Even then. Because I feel that if a cyclist is lulled into a sense of feeling safer in a bike lane. They are actually(and unintentionally) lowering their expectation for awareness of the traffic around them. Instead of the awareness remaining the same.

I never said the severity of being hit while in the 'travel lane' is less. Nor do I agree with whoever said it. Just like you said "Interesting physics magic there."

Do bike lanes increase bicycling and bicycle share of total traffic?

Does more bikes on the road lead to more safety for all cyclists?

I feel bike lanes will increase the bicycle share of traffic, by how much depends on the design and the road that it was implemented on. One of our most recently installed bike lanes has a low potentiality of attracting cyclists due to it's Eleventh hour design, squeezing too much into small area.
