In my town there is one intersection that seems to have most of the bike v car accidents, often with injuries. It is one controlled by stop lights with good visibility in all directions. Two lanes east/ west with center turn lane and north/ south one lane each and sb turn lane, no bike lanes, painted light controlled crosswalks. Looking for ideas to throw/ lobby the city council to make it safer.

I personally know of two others that have been hit there both with broken bones and I have been hit there as well myself; totalled my bike.

I'b be really interested to hear what has worked elsewhere. It seems that more accidents happen in this one intersection than all of the others in our city. A rural town 18K+ residents with a regional state university.

One thing that works is going a different way. Not trying to be flippant either, if it's an option anyway.

You'd have to determine why the accidents occur. Is it a case of cars running the light? Cyclists running the light? Left hooks? Right hooks? Inquiring minds what to know.

Yeah. It's impossible to suggest something when we don't know the intersection or the possible cause of the other accidents. Can you give us a Google map location, and some more information? Otherwise, anything we say is worthless.

Guessing by the nature of your results somebody turned left into you. One thing to do is give em the red arrow/green arrow in the turn lane. No more left turns across traffic.

Education of cyclists on defensive cycling techniques is the best bet for minimizing bike-car crashes though.

I'm intentionally vague in the details of my crash. The others I do not know the details. That said given that most accidents happen at that intersection it is fair to assume that there is all manner of accidents. The chief cause is likely motorists with a minimum of driving experience failing to see cyclists. This intersection is one block from the college. I think signage may help but it would be helpful if I knew that it has worked elsewhere.

Most college students have been driving for at least two years, so I don't think lack of experience is a valid reason. Are there lots of car versus car accidents as well?

Not seeing is usually due to being out of the line of sight of motorists, i.e. gutter riding.

Perhaps gathering crash statistics would be a good first step.

Could be also due to the fact that it's a decent size intersection (5 lanes+). I know when I lived in Tucson, there are many surface streets with 3 lanes each way, left and right turn lanes. That's 8 lanes wide of road, plus a median usually, that one would have to cross. Yellow lights are often WAAAAY too short for even a bike at a decent speed to make it through before it turns red. Add lagging left turn arrows, and there can be a lot of accidents. The city eventually started making many yellow lights last longer.
