A friend of mine who I sent that to says it's old but I haven't seen it before. I'm not sure how you'd stop, though. Maybe take the arms and angle them together like you do when you're skiing?

I wonder if he went down the entire Grimselpass? It's 26 kilometres in length.

Figured you probably saw stuff like that all the time over in the Louisiana Alps?

It does look like a good way to get wedged under a car at high speed....don't think I'll try it.

All 250 pounds of my fat redneck self will be over in the corner whimpering. And I thought coming down Donner Pass with no Jake and smoking brakes in an 80,000 pound Peterbilt was thrilling.

I have to say, smoking brakes and no Jake brake down Donner Pass does sound exciting !

Obviously you survived that experience...with a story to tell .

The Moral of that story... gear down greenhorn (my first 2 weeks trucking)...waaaaaay down. Not one gear, not two gears, not even three or 4. 5 is the right number of gears for a fully loaded truck with no engine brake. And we are only talking a 9-spd here. One or two gears lower than the gear you can climb in. Ah youth and inexperience. It's a wonder any of us survive.

You just described the only time I ever smoked the brakes.

You both survived, and that's the important thing. ACD, that Peterbilt was made in Renton, not more than five or six miles from where I live.

Oldfool, was your smokin' trip also down Donner?

Oh yeah, with a full load of paper. They have these nifty signs that tell truckers when to speed up and when to brake but it was the middle of the night, I was late, I was tired, it didn't seem all that steep and anyway I didn't need no stinking warning signs that is until I started getting that funny smell. Turns out I was laying down a smoke screen. It's been over 10 years but it is still fresh in my fading memory. A guy behind me said at one point that I had flame but I guess it blew out. There wasn't anything I could do about it anyway. I didn't need that lesson twice and it never happened again. Glad that part of my life is over as it was the hardest work I've ever done in my life. Those drivers that deliver our stuff don't get paid near enough.

Yeah, those suits are for sale. The guy who builds/rolls them is a genius, and really badass. Actually pretty cheap, if you have the money. Only $2,000 I think.

I hit youtube and searched for rollersuit to find some more videos. Looks like the ones on the back are shopping cart casters (front wheels).

I had an experience kind of like oldfool where I had 4 people in my beater Escort coming home (to KC) from Vegas via Denver. I just figured I would coast down the mountain. Then, it started getting dicey and my little 1.9L engine couldn't even provide enough engine brake power for my overloaded grocery-getter. When we got to a gas station, I could see orange shadows on the pavement, which ended up being red-hot rotors glowing through my wheels.

That is amazing. I wonder how fast he was going in the straights? It looked like maybe 60+ mph.

But I don't think the translation is idiomatic in either french or italian.

I would say thats about right. Thats steep and long enough that on a bike, I'm sure I could get close to 60, and he is way more aero than a bike, sitting about 6 inches off the ground.

It was absolutely amazing how straight and stable he could track on the straights and the amount of bite he could get when going into corners. It looked like a huge magnet suddenly pulled him into the corner.

This video is all closeups of the suit and slow speed acrobatics. I wonder if he can bunny hop potholes?

I liked seeing the pedestrians just ignoring him. Oh yeah -- we see guys in rollers suits all the time.
