Another New Bike: Comments Welcome

Hey guys,

I am looking to buy a Mongose Black Diamond Triple to replace my Mongoose DX 6.5. I do single track and a little free ride. On my current bike i never use the highest gear and the front fork is crap. I took a few FS bikes out last weekend and really like how they ride. I have looked at other bikes and haven't found one with the same components for a cheaper price. What do you guys think of the bike?

I have no personal experience with Mongoose's high end bikes, only the crap Walmart stuff they put out but I guess if you liked the bike and feel the frame is good quality (because the components are good)) and the geometry fits you then yeah, it might be quite worth it actually.

But even so if I were you I'd look into other bikes too.

I believe mongoose (maybe is was diamondback) has discontinued selling in wallmart. They are now a bikeshop set of bikes.

The high end bikes, such as the ecd, are really interesting. The design is a variation of the i-drive in how it works and how the suspension is activated. I would definately like a ride on one of those.

Hey, if it's good enough for Eric Carter it can't be all that bad.

The reviews I read were wonderful. They have a pretty bad reputation b/c of the Walmart crap, so they spec a bike pretty nicely for the price. The frame design (according to the reviews) was effective as well.

Ok, i will be getting the bike soon. I did get a deal on it, but i have to assemble it. Would i be better assembling it myself or having my LBS do it for me. I usually catch on quick but i have never assembled a bike before.

Well I don't know about that bike... but I just got a Specialized Rockhopper on e-bay and put most of it together but the rear derailleur and I was going to have my LBS do it but they wanted $50, so I dropped $15 for the allen wrench multi-tool and did it myself in about 5 minutes. No problems to speak of yet.

I find mongoose's higher end bikes to be way overpriced.

What would you have paid for a Mongoose Black Diamond Triple based on the components.
