Any good?

Yep, Dan's right... best to stay away from Wellington Rd once you get east of Napoleon Rd - farkin scary! Taylors or Napoleon would be the safest. Hand a left on Glenfern Rd and get over to Burwood Hwy.

Emerald's OK, we usually stop there for a coffee (Kilvington Dve bakery is good) but the best way to get there is definitely through Belgrave.
I've ridden there a few times using Wellington and it scared the ***** outta me.
There's good roads all over the hills, but it's how you make a circuit out of it that makes it fun-erer.

I'm working on some rides for you Nev :)
When are you heading for the hills next?

531Aussie 01-07-07 09:53 PM

^^ thanks a lot

not sure when I'll be out again.

My main concern is cars, not lack of hills :)

Why the hell has Ferntree Gully rod been so crap for so bloody long? It's still unsealed, and no better than it was 15 years ago. There's heaps of room for extra lanes and a bike lane, but I guess Bracks wnats everyone to use his new "Free"way

Hey guys this may seem a little bit out of the blue but I figure this would be one of the best places to start. Do you know of any places that may be selling a malvern 5 star or someone who is selling one? I'm looking for a frame 53-54.

thanks
andrew

Totally agree! Did it once as a sixteen year old and would never do it again. Those hills out at Lysterfield and the 100 clicks the trucks do are no man's land. You're better off ripping up stud and taking Burwood Hwy. (Lesser of three evils).

(My 2c AUD) The best road in the hills runs from Emerald to Monbulk and pops out at the roundabout near Coles (almost zero traffic) - you can then make your way up to Kalista or do 'The Wall'

Cheers to all.

G'day Aussie Scott. Welcome aboard.

+1 for Burwood Hwy being the better way out to the hills during weekday traffic.

So how long did it take you to delete your own posts? And why?

Aussie Scott 01-08-07 07:04 AM

Thanks for the welcome blokes. I'm still figuring out the protocols etc..
as for Burwood Hwy..Even better is to head further North at 'Nutrimetics' and get a good warm-up on the 1 in 20. Our group usually dumped our cars at Vermont Sth shops and went from there - avoiding 'inner' suburbs traffic lights etc.. That made a nice 80km return trip to Emerald.

531Aussie 01-08-07 07:23 AM

I've only just discovered Forrest Rd as a route to the 1/20! :p

Bogans :)

:roflmao: Hey I used to be one of those bogans. However I rejected my boganness many years ago :D

Funnily enough, a few old girlfriends used to call me 'grunter', and I don't know why. :D

hey 'easties', is it smokey up in the hills?

it's smokey down here

classic1 01-08-07 08:18 PM

Starting to get smoky in Traralgon. Probably the big fire north of Bairnsdale (Tambo, Bruthen etc)

Bah!

So are you going to organise the "union" ride? A good halfway point would be Eden down on the South Coast.

Always.;) You should drop in and say hello a little more often instead of just looking at the doping subforum.

I love Eden. Give me the south NSW coast anyday! Im not sure I have the talent or respect to organise something like that. It would take the smooth diplomatic nuances of a certain madam ;) juggling the needs and demands of the numerous egos that abound this fractured community of ours...:p

I reckon we might lose -- those guys race the track 8 times a week :p

I will definitely need my champagne filled bath with my bowl of blue m&m's.
