Cannot find axle for rear hub

Hi,

I have a fixed gear road bike (bought around 2011). While servicing the rear hub, I have noticed that the thread on the axle is really mangled. I would like to replace the axle with a brand new one because the old one is pretty much unusable and will just ruin the new nuts. My bike has sealed bearings so the axle is just a steel rod with the added complexity of having notches and stays for the bearings. In fact, my current axle looks very much like this one (pretty much identical):

The dimensions are almost the same (mine seems to be 80mm between the bearing stays, rather than 78mm). I've really been unable to find and buy such an axle. After failing to find anything online on numerous occasions, I walked into a bike shop but they couldn't help me. That wasn't one of the reputable bike shops but still...they had hub axle that looked like this one but I wasn't sure it will fit (neither were they):

I would really like to get back on my bike which I've been unable to do for a while now. Does anyone know where I can get any axle that will fit a sealed hub fixed gear bike?

A good starting point would be to share the brand and model of the hub. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer?

What diameter and pitch? Maybe the existing threads could be cleaned up with a die. Maybe.

Bike is Dawes mono. Hubs have no particular branding from what I can see. Rims are Alex DA22 rims if that helps. I would be willing to change the hub, but I can't true the wheel myself - I don't have a stand for the wheel.

That's a good idea. Just spinning off the locknuts might be enough to clean up the threads.

I seem to get the feeling that these axles are custom made? My idea of getting a new one for $10-$15 seems far fetched?

Contact Dawes and ask them what hub it is. Go from there.
