Front derailleur downshift lever jammed in strange position - Dura Ace 7900

This has never ever happened to me before and I have two bikes with Dura Ace 7900 levers fitted.

Today, for the first time, I used the adjustment screws to significantly shorten reach to the brakes since I've moved the hoods higher on my bars.

Went out for a ride and on my second shift up to the big ring the front derailleur downshift lever lifted up over a metal part and jammed on top of it. Had to return home and use tools to gently prise the lever back off and into position.

Anybody ever seen this before. Is it something that's more likely once you've reduced the brake reach?
