Can't take the crank arms out using removal tool.. with pics.

Hi . .trying to take the shimano cranks out of my old 1997 bike.. bu no can do!! I am trying to use the crank removal tool but the problem is that the end of the tool that is suppose to push out the crank is round and bigger than the square shape hole inside the crank (sorry i know i am horrible in explaining) .. i hope the pictures can make it clear .. Am i using the right tool here? Is there a trick to it? i even used a mallet and hit the crank as hard as possible trying to loose it up and no luck. thanks for your help and suggestions .

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

The tool you show is intended for Octalink/ISIS hollow spindle cranks and you need one for square taper cranks.

Frankly, this is an unusual request as normally posters have a square taper crank puller and wonder why it won't work on a hollow spindle bottom bracket.

+1 to what HillRider states...
...but you may get away with sticking a few dimes (or 1 cent Euro coins) in the square hole of the crank up against the end of the bb axle and then tighten down the ram part of the press.

The problem is you need the ram part of the tool to press against the end of the bottom bracket axle without touching the crankarm.

Looking at the photo, I suspect (it's hard to gauge) that you do have the right remover, but the business end is burred or mushroomed slightly from a prior use. Measure it carefully, and if it's close, then all that's needed to to grind the flare off the end.

Or find something bigger than the spindle hole, and smaller than the square hole, and use it to raise the spindle so the pusher doesn't have to pass the bottom of the crank arm.

Something like a socket cap screw can be used.
