Can you help me identify this electrical cable found in my brifter?

My Sora rear brifter stopped shifting. When I looked inside, I saw what looked like a long paper strip all tangled up in the works. Turns out it is an electrical cable, labeled "Sumitomo AWM 2896 80C 30V VW-1".

It clearly wasn't helping my brifter, and one end was torn, so I cut it out. I degreased and greased the brifter and now it works again, but I'm so curious about this cable.

It's an electrical cable manufactured by Sumitomo.

Is it a "Flight Deck" brifter? If so is is likely the interconnect cable for the Flight Deck functionality.

Most Shimano road STI's until the current generation were wired for Flightdeck, never seen anyone actually using it, as the computer head units were very expensive.

It is. Thanks for clearing that up. It's a cheap Trek Pilot 1.0. I never knew what "Flight Deck" meant until now.

And it's totally unnecessary for proper function of your brifter so no worries about removing the cable.
