Just found out my pedals are shot...

...and I'm angry! I thought I was done with the major aspects of this bike, but now that I have my new clips and straps on, I have to go pedal hunting! Damn! It could be a blessing in disguise: I might find some nice used MKSs for cheap...Any other suggestions (I want metal, not plastic or resin)?

Just a standard road platform on there now. Apparently a half-incher.

See if you can find some NOS SunTour Superb Pro pedals. Those were pretty nice. Barring that then the MKS GR9 seem like a good option.

How shot?
My races are rotting...I just keep stuffing new balls and grease in there.
It's happening faster now that the races are scratched.

oh...what i'm talking about, replace the balls and grease if not a sealed bearing system.
Unless you've broken the cage, bent the axle, collapsed the race...=bearings and grease.

I did a post for the bmx forum how to do a ball replace for someone, they decided to buy new ones. It's not that hard.
Sealed or not, getting used to changing bearings\sealed units saves $$.

I buy non-sealed pedals, the 'fix' =$1.50 for balls, $.50 Phill Woods grease.
About twice a year.

i agree with Jeff Williams. Usually at better hardware stores you can pickup some of the same bearings, just bring them in! These bearings are like fuses, they wear but the rest of the stuff will last a very long time. Even if they are sealed at some places you can buy replacements

Well, the wrench was one who I haven't seen at the LBS before. Right now it feels like the pedals need to be tightened, he said it was the bearings. He basically told me that it's not worth the bother to remove the dust cover, deal with the cone, and then repack the bearings, but maybe not. I might do that sometime here when I have the time. Do I need any special tools?

Try some clipless pedals. I hear Crankbrothers are good. I am probably going to purchase some Crankbrother's "candy" pedals from ebay.

Socket set, small pliers.
Park tool has well written info.https://www.parktool.com/repair_help/FAQindex.shtml

Not so well written.https://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.p...87&postcount=4

DIY, or find someone who will, tightening is no prob, the balls replaced means more life, and what he means is it might cost a 1\2 hour labour change and they are lousy pedals.
DIY or buy some new better pedals and learn to maintain them.

These went on my tour bike a month ago. They are working well.

WTB Momentum Grease Guard platform pedals. approx $40 for a set.
