Tool for pulling cassette

Anyone know the park tool number for removing my cassette on my giant cypress? I bought one from Amazon labeled Shimano but it doesn't fit.

Are you sure it is not a freewheel? Freewheel or Cassette?

i've been using my FR1 on my cassette lockrings for years. it needs a little encouragement at first but, if you don't tighten the heck out of your lockrings, in the first place, it shouldn't take much to get the FR1 in a millimeter or so to get the lockring off. mine works now on both cassette lockrings and shimano freewheels.

it's not for the faint of heart. there's some finesse involved... some ungenerous types would call it butchery.

How much encouragement? I couldn't get it to fit at all. I'd need a big ol hammer

The FR-1 (and FR-1.2) is for freewheels. The FR-5 is for cassettes.

My experience doesn't match Huey's. I can't get the wrong tool to fit. Not without more persuasion than I'm willing to use, at least.

IME, they are very close to the same size and have the same number of splines. like i say, it involves some finesse and a bit of good judgment as to how hard to go at it. eventually the splines have worn a bit and now will engage to about a milimeter or so on any cassette lockring i've found, which is what i need. i've even, by chance, bought an after market cassette lockring that the freewheel tool fits into without encouragement.

one needs to be bold and pretty much care not a whit about the lockring. i've found them to be plenty tough. at least the steel ones.

but i am more than willing to accept that others may not find this something that they are comfortable with. i wasn't at first, but now, i just pound it in a twist.
