Rear Derailleur cable stop issue
Have an older steel frame from the late 70's early 80's. Dropped tension on my RD a few days ago and realized it was because my cable guide pulled through the stop and stripped the rubber sheathing from the metal core. Is there any easy fix for this other than getting someone to weld something back in? hoping there is some sort of metal piece i can add to the end of my cable guide that will stop it from pulling through.

I have seen glue on stops although I don't know how well they work. You could also run a full length of cable from your last stop to the deraileur. Is the stop damaged? If not then just replace the cable cover

Some of the old cable stops require a step down ferrule. I think this will solve your problem.

Yes, Your step down cable ferrule is the way to go .. get ones that are big enough to use a regular Brass Ferrule
on the Housing End itself, on the Big end , particularly if using index shifting's needed low compression housing..
Would the frame housing stops happen to be ball shaped?

That looks like it will work, thanks brian and fiets. Yeah its ball shaped, im used to the style where one end is open and the other comes down to a small pinhole for the cable to exit. Looked too clean to be a break but wasnt sure if thats just the style of the stop. Columbus Steel frame from a local builder, but it was decked out with a missmatch of MTB/suntour supreme DR's,campagnolo shifters/BB, scott straight bar and mtb shifters. So not too surprised if it was setup incorrectly at the RD.

By chance, do you have one of these or similar?

If so, these were designed to accept a stepped ferrule which fits snugly into the pocket. I'm surprised you got along with one for so long.

I dont have my bike next to me but yeah basically that, the opening is the same on both sides. Since i picked it up a few months ago its probably only been ridden like 6 or 7 times 4 or 5 mile rides at a time with minimal shifting.

So you're set.
Campagnolo made a special stepped ferrule that was a very snug into that fitting, and kept the housing correctly aligned. I doubt you'll be able to find the exact item, but any snug fitting stepped ferrule will do.
Note, a sloppy ferrule will tend to go offline because of the tug of the housing, but if it's an issue, you can creatively find a way to make the fit more snug so it works well.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.
All the cable stops pictured in the discussion above are brazed onto the chainstay prior to painting the frame. If your frame does not already have a cable stop brazed in place, you can get clamp-on cable stops, e.g.:
