Italian headset question
My Pinarello F4:13 has a squeaky upper headset bearing. All apart I might as well change both.
On the earlier F4:13 (mine) the sealed bearings were identical. 42mm OD, 30mm ID, 6.5mm thickness.
I found a set or two on Ebay but they are $45 a set. I notice the 41.6 mm OD headset bearings are less than $20.
I am thinking one of you guys know where I can get a set of bearings for this bike for a better deal. If someone were to suggest
a more expensive but lighter bearing alternative I would be all ears. I was surprised to see how heavy these bearings are.
I love Italian stuff but..it is always just a little different...

$45 for a quality headset is about right. I'm looking now at a Cane Creak 40 IS42/28.6 unit (Italian 42mm head tube diameter). MSRP is $52.00. For less than $100, Cane Creek 40 and FSA Orbit headsets are hard to beat. Over $100, a Cane Creek 110 will probably outlive your frame. Over $200, the Chris King devotees can chime in.
Regarding weight, don't. You want quality and durability here.

I completely agree that durability and longevity are the priorities in bearings in general and headset ones specifically. Weight should be far down the list. Besides the number of middle men involved the cost is greatly determined by the numbers of parts being made. Andy.

Bright side is these bearings appear to be very common, I found a set (new) on Amazon last night for $4.00 each (I wouldn't buy them, too cheap, something must be wrong)
But I did buy a new set for 35.00 that look good.
Supposed to be a bear to press in but my local LBS uses my services sometimes for things, I never charge them and I get to go in and walk off with a specialty tool for an hour with no problems.

All back together, this headset bearing used by Pinarello is a common bearing it appears. The top and bottom are the same as a BB30 bearing I was told. Local shop had a bin of them so I grabbed a set of theirs and will use the ones that are being shipped to me to refill their stock.
Back together was easy, there is a youtube on how to pull it together using the top cap and a stack of spacers, works slick.
Thanks for all the advice
