bar end shifters
I've been working on my roomie's bike for a triathlon this summer, and got him some new parts (honestly, i'm still in the process of getting a few more parts).
Basically, I'm making his cannondale m700 suitable for such an event. He doesn't care much for getting a new bike for this triathlon, since he's not sure if he'd really get into it.
anyway, to the point: I got some bar end shifters (dura ace) to mount on his bullhorn bars, but he doesn't have any braze ons on the downtube. Would it be possible to install them anyway? Or are there any psuedo downtube brazeones I could get?
Any help would be appreciated I'll prolly have more questions as I progress through this...

Some frames have cable stops at the headtube, rather than the downtube. Is this your situation?
You could always run cable housing the full length of the cable run and zip tie the cables to the downtube. It's an inelegant solution, but workable.
I looked at both thethirdhand.com and bicycletoolsetc.com and couldn't find anything to fit your needs, but you might want to look for yourself.

There are cable stops on the downtube, but it seems like the shifters require (what look like) barrel adjusters to install into braze holes on the downtube (which the bike does not have).
I'm sorry... should've been more clear in my orig. post Am I making any sense?
In other words, is it possible to run bar end shifters without the braze holes in the downtube?? Is it really necessary to have the adjusters? arrr....

Check any bike shop. Shimano puts the barrel adjusters in the new STI packages I have bought so I'd think the shops should have some laying around.

Why not simply run your cable housings into stops or ferrules on the downtube, without worrying about adjusting barrels and the like? I chiseled off the original right-side Simplex shifter boss and mounted a clamp-style double cable stop over that location; works great.

My downtube has welded cable stops but no provision for barrel adjusters also. Use in-line cable adjusters if so desired. My bar end shifters require only occassional tweeking at the rear derailleur only and none at on the front derailleur since it's friction, therefore I use no other cable adjusters except for that barrel adjuster on the rear derailleur. Of course, I have to get off the bike to make any adjustments. But I don't think your friend wants to do that on his tri bike.....he'll want to tweek his derailleur on the go........therefore, install in-line cable adjusters. Most LBS's should have them laying around. They come with STI packages and some mechanics don't use them.

Clamp-on cable stops for a Cannondale? Does such a thing exist?

Tell you the truth, a broken-in bike will not need tension adjustment. At first, when I got my bike (with finicky sora!) it needed a little bit of tweaking every few days. Now, it's been probably 800 miles since I last touched the barrel adjusters. When things settle it, it should work fine with no adjustment necessary.

I don't understand. How old is this bike? The Cannondale M700 is a MTB isn't it? Those things should have downtube cablestops already brazed on shouldn't they?

Well the first post made it seem like the big issue was not having any cablestops. I thought that adjusters were simply a luxury for the OP and not a must-have. I guess post #5 clears that up.

In almost all instances, due to lack of shifter bosses, using barend shifters on mountain bike frames would require use of in-line barrel adjusters IF YOU NEED THEM. Otherwise, the adjuster on the rear derailleur is usually all you need. Read post #11 above.
I eventually took my in-line adjusters off because I never had to use them...
