Generically headset cups are pressed in , or Integrated.. then, head tube is machined, the cartridge bearings slip in the machined head tube.

British Dawes, or China "Dawes" ? threaded /quill stem or threadless fork?

Specific components involved, and close-up pictures will get more accurate answers.

Extra points for sharply focused, well lit shots, with views from different, comprehensible angles.

Bikes: '89 Specialized Hardrock Fixed Gear Commuter; 1984? Dawes Atlantis

You may want to post this in Classic & Vintage. I assume the bike is is a vintage bike, made in Birmingham.

A few Dawes owners hang out in the C&V. Pics are almost always good.

I don't think I've seen a threaded headset threaded in that way before.

run of the mill threaded type Headset .. Press fit cups

the Shop "rocket tool" will knock out the cups in 30 seconds time ,
once you take the fork Out. Its the fork steerer that is threaded you need 32MM headset wrenches 2.

Head Cup Remover | Park Tool

then you need to remove the crown race from the fork .. Buy a new headset when back from the Powder-coat shop.

may be have a Bike Shop with their tools do it if you dont want to make a Tool Investment.
I'dat least get the headset wrench [1 & a 12" crescent wrench will Do, (top nut wide, adjustable cup thin)]

Good luck getting the stem out. It's a job and a half if it's truly stuck.

When you loosened the bolt up top, did you tap it down with a hammer?

What do you mean by pedal bar? The crank? There are a few ways to get a stuck crank off. Luckily it's generally easier than getting a stuck stem out. I've listed 3 solutions here in order of increasing likelihood of damaging something. The gear puller will ruin the chainrings if you're on that side.

You can use jacobs chuck wedges with a spacer or two depending on the bike.

Or you can use a "pickle fork" (google it, found at your local auto parts store.)

Or you can use a gear puller like the one below.

Another question about breaks I have weinmann 500 anadoised gold side pill calipers 1 is slightly bent where barrel adjuster goes.Would it be safe to remove adjuster and put blocks of wood on either side and put in bench vise.I'm thinking there made of Bakelite and might break.Would heat work??.

Interesting bike. Did you finish it? Are there any pictures?
Gold Weinmann 500s must have looked quite cool.

Cheers,
