It's gotta vary based on you.
I'm strongly right-handed (I do almost nothing with my left hand), and my Spurcycle bell is operated by my right hand and is mounted on the top bar, just to the right of the stem.

Don't forget a bean bag gun in case they don't hear the police whistle.

my panic stop today: the old couple heard the bell and guided right, and their inbred yap pooch was on a 20' yo-yo and headed straight to the left side of the path.
I hate it when the dog is the brains of the outfit
Every one of my dogs was heel-trained - they kept their eyes even with my knees.
I hate yo-yo leashes. They're for people too lazy to train their dogs to heel.

I can use my both hand well.
At the left side I put the lamp.
At the right side the bell.
I think it is better to put it right if you right handed.
Since you will have faster reflex in emergency cases with right hand..???.

I start off On your left! On your lefftttt! Move over! they still don't move.

On my straight-bar commuter bike, I have an incredibell mounted on the right where I can ding it with my index finger with my hand on the grip. I mostly brake with my left (front) anyway and it leaves my right thumb free to downshift at the same time. Part of my commute is on a MUP, so it gets some use regularly.

It sounds like a bell would be a good addition to my wife's bike and mine. On the left makes more sense to me from riding motorcycles as well. What's everyones bell of choice? I've seen a few in the thread that look good.

mounted to the top/right of my bars (on my Jones Loop bars)
and this one on the right side of my spacer stack (on my threadless-stem bike)
I've never had the lever-strike Crane bells ring accidentally, and the big brass one rings very loud and clear.
The only bell-related mishap I had was when I went over the handlebars last winter while goofing around on my fat bike (I crashed coming back down over a big log/ice obstacle) and I managed to bend the heck out of the bell mount.

Decision..
I have been realised today..that i change steadily gear shifting with my right hand.
So for the bell only left hand available.
This is the experience..

I like mine on the stem or on the aero bars on my TT bike. I'm just glad that they started making the brackets large enough to fit on the stems. Before they just fit kiddie bike bars.

I'm hoping the Knog Oi bell makes it to US distributors soon after the November release. I went to preorder one for $19.95 and they wanted $15 shipping from Australia so I'll wait.
