This was fun

Hi All, So I've been helping my daughter watch her kids following her surgery. Her next door neighbor asked for some help adjusting the FD on his daughter's bike. Instead of fixing it myself in a couple of minutes, I explained how HE could fix it with about fifteen minutes of step by step instructions. He was so proud of himself (he's not very mechanically inclined) and quite smitten with his success. He then noticed an issue with the RD and asked a question to double check what he thought he needed to do and then became doubly proud after fixing that also.

Good times,
Brad

Excellent! It's a true pleasure passing on knowledge to a learner. Perhaps you could come and try it with my Son? No, on second thoughts forget that, you seem like a nice guy and I wouldn't want to put you through the stress

coominya, Good luck with your son. I learned with my kids, which run the entire range of mechanical aptitude and personal interests, to play to their strengths.

I have three more days with the grandkids so I'll likely be offering more advice...like a little oil on the chain goes a long way to quieting drivetrain noise. As of now there is none.

I know. I do notice that every once in awhile a bit of their childish past mannerisms surface at odd moments, even once in awhile with their kids I'll see their parent's DNA. Good times.

bradtx and bulldog1935, you are excellent fathers.

I taught bike repair a few years ago, and I love it when I see the lightbulb over the head power on, especially when working with kids. I should have been a teacher. I've been told I'm good, and my class overflowed.

Nice you two.....some of the my best father/son memories were rehabbing and building a new bike for my son from his grandmother's bike boom Univega. If I could only get him interested in gears......he is still a fixie kinda guy (with brakes) or longboard skate board (which we build also)

My neighbor came over and asked to borrow a screwdriver once. A SCREWDRIVER. I asked him if he needed me to show him how to use it, but he said he thought he could figure it out.
