Bottom bracket Identification.
I have a 2000-2001 Campy Record bottom bracket, ISO square.
I believe it is English Thread, Italian thread seems to be an older standard that would not be used by 2000, but I am not 100% sure.
Any easy way to verify?
One thought is that English has reverse threads on one side, Italian should not, but not 100% sure on that.

Think of it as shell LENGTH.

Interesting... I would have thought it would have been at the threads like measuring an M5 bolt.

I don't think I've ever seen a Campy Record BB that didn't have the threading stamped/printed on the outside of one or both of the cups. You shouldn't have to remove or measure anything to find out if it's English or Italian. Spindle length is another story.

Measure the bottom bracket SHELL. The thing that's attached to the frame and that the BB screws into. You can measure that with the BB still installed.

two different aspects being measured. Shell width has nothing to do with the threading (except for the now common partnering of certain thread dimensions with certain shell widths). Example is with mountain bikes (and a few road ones) English threaded shells/Bbs are made in 68mm and in 73mm wide widths. Just as your M5 bolt could be of different lengths too. Andy

N.B. Bottom bracket shell width is not a reliable indicator of bottom bracket thread spec. While most 68mm wide bottom brackets will be English thread, and most 70mm bottom brackets will be Italian thread, there are many exceptions. Look for the thread spec markings on the cups to be certain.
