Paint Question

I may need to repaint the seat stays on my frame. I painted this frame about 2 years ago with base and clear coat.
My question is can I lighty sand the clear and spray the base over the repair area and onto the clear then spray the clear over the whole area?
Thanks

Similar question (Sorry if this is a hijack, Tandem Tom: let me know if so and I'll make a separate thread). I have a 1999 Lemond that has some rough spots. I'd like to sand, wet sand, prime, and coat. I'm pretty sure that the original paint is two-part. Can I just use rattle-can enamel over the top of that?

Iirc it's enamel. You'll want to strip it down in the unmasked area and apply a primer sealer before a color coat. Once done, baking it on using indirect heat will help it shell.

If I follow, you used a base coat/clear coat system, then you can do as you ask.

To answer the OP, you can do as you described over a base/clear. You will probably have to scuff and clear the whole frame, because you probably won't be able to blend the new clear into the old

This is not the case. Touch ups on base/clears are regularly done.
