Kryptonite cable lock

I have an older model Kryptonite cable lock (see attached photos) but I don't know how the lock attaches to my bicycle.

Can anyone help or can supply the model number?

You have the lock in holder right. The holder attaches to a classic seat post binder bolt.

I doubt the lock has what they would call a serial number but many keys are coded with the cut number. I believe I see some of the numbers stamped on the key. Andy.

The number on the key is 658.

I didn't remove the seat post binder bolt from the bike when I removed the lock.

How does the quick-release assembly attach to the holder and to the seat post binder bolt?

The QR assembly isn't part of the lock. The QR or the bikes OEM binder bolt, but not both at the same time, is used to secure the bracket to the bike. I hope you don't have a small bike with a low seat height as the lock's coils can droop down and rub on the rear tire. Andy.

You are looking at the problem from the side of the QR belonging to the lock. If you approach it as some stuff and what belongs together, and what is the odd man, the QR's association drops.

Most likely the lock was on a low cost mountain or hybrid bike some time ago. The rider realized two things and moved on from this group of stuff. The rider wanted greater protection then a coiler offers and also wanted the seat impulse theft free. Andy

The cable and key are all that is needed. If the other stuff was intended and sold with the lock originally, then it was glitter to make it seem better than others.

As for just how to use that to lock your bike. Always try to run the cable through the frame, both wheels and whatever immovable object you are locking to.

Essentially, just run the cable through as most things you can and still be able to connect to an immovable object. But if you don't have an immovable object to lock to, then just run it through the wheels and frame as a deterrent. Which is all a lock is anyway.

Don't over think it though.

I think the QR belongs to a headlight or other item that I've removed from the bike and gotten rid of.

Thanks for all of your responses

You are aware of just how easy a cable lock is to cut,? Right? Its only Slight security ..

a compact and easy to carry lock offering a lot more security Abus Bordo, a folding steel link lock..

The Granit X-Plus Bordo is the good one. The cheaper model is not very good.

Location matters .. and if the bike next to yours is even easier to steal.

Big Bordo 6000, is 8 link so has a little further reach than its 6 link brethren.. FWIW..

they have a rating scheme , granit X 15, Heaviest;the 6000 ,10; their folding link combination lock, is a 6.
