Ashtabula Hanger Cups
So I have an old Beach Cruiser I'm working on.
I'm in the process of repacking the 1 piece Crank it has and can't get the hanger cups to come out. I guess my question is 2 parts though.
1. Do I even need to take these out?
2. If so, how do I take them out?
I just wanted to remove everything, clean it all out good, then reinstall with plenty of park tool grease.
Thanks!

1) only if they are damaged (pitted) on the area where the balls roll, and
2) a drift punch applied in a cross pattern (same as tightening a brake rotor, chain ring, or car wheel) with a hammer. They are easy to remove by press-fit standards, and are typically installed with a rubber mallet...though you can use a bicycle bearing press, if you really want to.
Good quality replacements can be had from Wald (American sizes, hardware fits Schwinn bikes) or Tange (Asian specs). If you replace the whole thing–crank, cups, bearings, hardware–you only need to match the maker... Either will fit any bike that uses the American bottom bracket standard.

Thanks for this y'all! They weren't damaged so I left them in, cleaned everything, and repacked it. Will keep these tips in mind for my next one if I need to take em out though!
