Dropout guard replacement?

Carbon frame had the metal dropout guard sheared off, I'm not sure what its called. Anyone ever replace one of these? It's the piece that the skewer presses into, not the derailleur hanger.

My Guess, it was a stainless steel face , cut something out, and glue it back on ??

Got a hacksaw and some metal files.. ?

Do you still have the "guard"? Like FB said I suspect what you really have is the drop out face that came off. Is the frame still under a warranty? Photos? If the bike is now unrideable then there's no loss (assuming no warranty) to try fixing it. If you're hesitant there are a few carbon repair outfits to call. Andy

Yes stainless face, unsure about what type of glue I'd use and if it would actually stay on. Ok to clamp direct to carbon?

Yes, dropout face was sheared off by trainer (long story). No warranty. Bike is rideable as I layered 5 or 6 pieces of metallic tape onto the carbon. Ok to just clamp to carbon? I've seen some bikes that have this setup.

If there was a carbon core and steel faced dropout then we hope the frame was designed well for this. (Carbon isn't at it's best when under compression). The goal with carbon repairs and bonding in general is to only have enough bonding agent between the fibers/frame materials to insure complete wetting and bonding. Using an epoxy as a filler to handle gaps and pits isn't the best use of epoxy. I could see how cleaning up, making sure the mating surface is truly flat, could be difficult given the contours that some drop outs have. Andy

double stick tape? 3M makes an adhesive coating between 2 layers of release tape, to apply..
to 'whatever' ...

looking at picture, the fasteners holding on the replaceable hanger
might need accessibility, in the future..
so nothing too permanent ?

Tightening the axle QR, will do a OK job if holding the SS Sheet piece on.. I'd think..

So maybe the next option is a new drop out. Have you contacted any of the professional carbon repair outfits? Andy
