Shimano 600 Shifter Removal
Should these chrome (plastic) pieces be removable?
Any trick to getting them off?

They're not plastic.
And for posterity, I find hitting them with some penetrating spray, and then grabbing them with pliers (the kind with an arched section of teeth) through a rag and giving them a wiggle frees them up.
