Crown Race Seat Diameter

Have any of you seen a 1" road fork with a 30mm crown race seat diameter? My understanding is 26.4mm and 27.0mm are the two standards for 1 inch forks.

2nd guessing..

Cut it down if you cannot put a standard headset on it..

perhaps they left it oversize, so you can choose ISO or JIS headsets.. ..and cut the crown race to suit.

I suppose one could make a 1" steerer's crown seat at 30mm. But why? Only reason I see is to be able to use a 1" steerer in a frame designed for a 1 1/8" system. But then you'd also have to address the upper stack mismatch too. Andy

The reason for the question is I was looking at the specs on a 1" headset and it shows the cups fit a 30.1 head tube and the crown race fits 30. Doesn't make sense to me.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

Doesn't make sense to me, either. Can you post a link to the specs?

Friend of mine asked me to look into this headset: https://www.jensonusa.com/Cane-Creek...dition-Headset

I told him to get it and order the correct crown race from me if it really is 30mm.

If you look on the right side of the page at the box that states the color and size specs you'll see a reference to "EC30/26" as in the lower HT ID is 30 and the crown seat is 26 (actually 26.4). The "30mm is a typo in the text portion of the page. You could also go directly to the Cane Creek site and double check. Andy

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

I looked at Jenson's web site and that headset crown race description in the summary table has to be a typo. The actual order line reads: Gold EC30/25.4/EC30/26, Straight. The press in cups are 30 mm for a 1" (25.4 mm) steerer and the crown race is 26.4.

Hmmm, Andy types faster than I do but we certainly agree.

I called them and spoke to somebody and pointed out the 30mm spec. Not sure that person understood what I was talking about. Just wanted to be sure I was not mistaken on the two sizes for crown races. My friend, Tim, just has to have gold and the 110 Cane Creek. I told him he can get gold in Chris King, too, but he wanted this headset for some reason. My guess is because he has a Cane Creek headset already and the wheels he had from them were incredibly durable. Told him a Chris King from me won't cost that much more and really is way over the top well made.
