Difference in brake cables?

Difference in brake cables?
OK I know what a MTB cable is. But my question is on the difference between road bike brake cables. Specifically the ends.
In stock I have some road bike brake cables for my road bike. They sort of look like a large derailleur cable end. A cylinder with the end is squared off. But on the touring bike, same thing except the end is rounded.
What are the difference between the two (besides the ends
)? Are they interchangeable?

OK looks like I have Shimano style head on the touring bike. But in stock I have the Campagnolo in stock. From the sound of that article I can use it in my brakes.

While the "road" end (sometimes called the pear shape) cables generally have very similar initial "at the cable" shapes the bulge portion can have some differences in size. Some levers have less clearance to fit a big cable end. Some Campy STI levers sit in this camp. Andy

been a long time since I saw one, but there was a brass barrel adapter to use road cables .. on mountain levers..
its gear cables , that make dilemmas .. when people jam a larger shimano end spec cable
in a smaller hole in a Campagnolo lever.. then write here, for help getting it unstuck..
