Giant Contend AR - expander plug

Hi folks,

I have a Giant Contend AR 1 (2022) and have a question regarding the headset. Today I loosened the stem and removed the top cap - this also loosened the top part of the expansion plug.

The expansion plug appears to have only two parts - the top bolt/wedge and expander itself. There’s no nut/starnut/lower wedge at the bottom. Can anyone say whether this is correct? Perhaps the dealer has left a piece out?

thanks!

Star nuts are only for aluminium or steel steerer tubes. I believe that one is carbon, so that would be correct.

Thanks for the reply! That’s right - it is carbon. Although, the carbon expanders I’ve seen often still have a nut or lower wedge (eg the TCR version). I’m not sure if this Contend one is a different/simpler design or missing that lower piece.

Well, I'd have said if it was working before then it's probably complete. A photo would help. Is it possible that the lower wedge has fallen off down the tube?
