Old MTB pedal "side bolts"

I bought a 1989 DB Apex bike that was missing a couple on one pedal. Pics are of the other good pedal.

Do we know what size bolt I should buy? Thanks!

if i were you, i'd head to a hardware store and use their in stock nuts or thread ID cards to match up the thread rate, then realize that I should probably buy some NICE NEW PEDALS instead of messing around trying to find really really short Metric Countersunk Screws in the M4x.7mm (just a guess) thread size.......

MKS pedals? If so, get a replacement bolt. Good time to service the bearings

They probably have em at Ace.

Fastenal has em. Not sure of length. Also need to verify diameter.

take another look at those pedals... i bet the bearings are as thrashed...

what happens to threads in cast aluminum when steel screws, under shear and impact loading, back out, and then fall out?
even if they bite and thread in, the screws will likely back out again.

SDhawk Might get lucky and, by using Green Locktite Bearing race and bushing locker, keep those new screws in the pedals for a month or three...

i'd just get new pedals now.
i've been through this scenario too many times.

It's a M5 10mm countersunk flat head screw.

I stock these all the time.

Actually I have almost every M5, M6, M8 screw lengths types and nuts you can think of. It's a godsend the entire collection occupies just one beefy case.

Maybe, maybe not. I've run worse looking pedals that were just fine. I've had worse that worked great after a repack also.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably try out some new screws and see how it goes. It'll be a flip, but I do want to sell a functional bike.

While you are at it, if the pedal guards come off easily, throw some gloss black on them, it'll divert attention to other attractive features of the bike.

Don't be that DIY that paints whole pedals assembled

Correct anything unsightedly on a bike that is a distraction, like rusted fasteners, scratches, and the buyer will see how awesome the rest is.

Here were some pedals that were literally silver color from a lifetime of scratches.

You can still see the pits and scars in them, but after the gloss black they are not as distracting.

And with the black guard removed, you can polish up the aluminum spindle.

(Poor quality pic since it was a originally photo of the entire bike, had to 2x zoom just the pedal.)
