Maybe using a racing bike for commuting is part of the issue here?

Nasty thing about a threadless stem is that you can't easily adjust the height, something which is very easy to do with a quill stem.
But this would be combining the good features of both systems, since you could easily adjust the height using the quill adapter, and easily swap stems since you’re using threadless.

"I'm surprised the bar on your Klein is 25.4 rather than 26.0."

Is now, but was not: the Klein came with a "System 2" bar/stem. The stem is very light, cro-moly and yes, the bar is 26.0.

My new stem is much heavier but nice looking. I had an Alps Road Champion 25.4 handlebar on hand and used it. The System 2 bar/stem is intact for future use, maybe to be returned to the Klein.
