Bottom Bracket confusion

Hey guys, I am swimming in a sea of information concerning a German road bike I am setting up for myself.

I took some measurements and got with an eBay seller and now I own a nice Sram red crankset that barely sticks out the other side

I start reading and I realize I don't have a clue what I have or what I need, I get terms like "386 EVO", "386 Mega Evo",

Can anyone guide me out of this?

Thanks

Mike

So your SRAM crankset's spindle's too short for the Shimano BB is what you're telling us?

Those two pics leave me wanting more info about the BB itself... can you take then post a pic showing the BB's rim with what text it bears easily readable?

Maybe a link to the eBay'd SRAM crankset you bought as well? Where'd you acquire the frame, and whose design izzit?

It is a bb-sm91-41. This is a flush fit, pressed in Hollowtech type road BB that you would insert a 24mm spindle without any spacers or adapters.

To use a SRAM GXP crankset you would need a spindle adapter to get rid of the step on the left spindle and spacers and a wave washer to get it to space and tighten down without floating laterally.

If your GXP crankset doesn't go through far enough, check for extra spacers on the drive side.

Yes, spindle way too short. Diameter of the spindle appears correct but the Sram I bought doesn't go far enough into the bike to catch the non drive bearing surface.

This is a Storck Aernario G1. I bought it frame only and, when it arrived I thought I had been shipped an empty box

The BB is 92 wide from outside face to outside face.

You should check to see if the cups are seated in all the way. Sometimes they will pull out partially when the old cranks are removed. 92 is too wide for a road bike.

It is also possible someone put a spacer under the assembly because they built it with a MTB crank. So if it won't push in further, pull it out.

Of course, this in not the right BB for your crank. Buy an 86x41 GXP BB and you won't have any more problems.

I have a GXP crank in a pressfit shell just like this on another German bike and (unsurprisingly) Kontact is bang on. No way the external width should be that wide and you do need the right BB or adapter because the left side is only 22mm diameter unlike a shimano crank.

I am going to buy one and then go next door to the trek store and have the existing cups pressed out or borrow the tool to drive them out. I am hoping I can use the Sram crank I have, or one like it.

Thanks Guys, I will update

This afternoon I borrowed one of the Park tools to drive out the Bottom Bearings that came in the bike, No issues, they just tapped right out. With them out the frame measures 86 width. So am I expecting the 86x41 GXP BB to be flush with the frame? If that is the way this works I'll get one coming tomorrow morning. The cups that were in there were pretty well seated , is 92 a dimension that was being used on purpose?

Yep, the outside face of the bearings should be flush once you’ve pressed them in properly.
