Orbea orca frame with onix components
have a 2007 or 2008 Orbea Onix 51cm bike with a cranked frame. Do you know if this Orca frame will work with all of my components? Is your frame designed for caliper or disc brakes? Would the crank be compatible with an Onix? Anything I need to measure or check?I have a 2007 or 2008 Orbea Onix 51cm bike with a cranked frame. Thanks cb400bill
Heidi Love I have no idea but your local shop could probably help out with moving stuff over. Generally if they are similar areas and similar bikes then usually yes but if something more modern you are probably dealing with disc brakes which would mean either new levers and calipers or getting some mechanical disc brakes like Paul Klampers, TRP Spyres or Hy/Rds or a Avid BB7 Road. You will also need new wheels and in some cases a new bottom bracket. There might be other issues of moving stuff over depending on what the Orca frameset has from the box. Like I said your local shop can help you to figure out what you need. You could also try Orbea assuming everything is basically stock but sometimes they miss stuff.
We had a Specialized warranty and they sent a new frame and said we only need a couple parts and we ended up needing quite a few and it took a while to figure that all out because of staff incompetence which they both got reamed out for because I don't tolerate B.S. like that anywhere near my name.

Orca/onix
Hi Heidi ,I’ve owned/own both ,little confused by what you have if you have an earlier Orca [2004 ish ] the Onix was virtually [I think it is]the same frame so everything incl headset bearings is transferable ,the 2007/8 ‘new’ Orca with the less ‘flowing’style frame will have same bsa bottom bracket threading ,don’t know if headset bearing the same but def a transferable fork [hidden headset],without looking up photos I can’t remember if the later ‘07 orca took the same 27.2 seatpost as the Onix and earlier Orca ,when the ‘new’ Orca came out I think they made the old Orca the Onix

Orca/Onix
What year approx is your Orca ? ,I know it’s the obvious thing to say but photos would help as the Orca frame later became very different visually from the earlier and even before disc brake version I think went from the earlier threaded bottom bracket to a press fit option ,sorry if I’ve confused matters
