Selecting A Credible Internet Wheelbuilder??

Selecting A Credible Internet Wheelbuilder??
Please learn to build your own wheelsor be extremely cautious in selecting a wheel builder.
I will avoid any/all future transaction/interaction with www.SUPERSPOKES.com
I ordered a Ultegra-Velocity Fusion-DT Swiss wheelset in early December. I was told that it would "take a couple of days to get the Ultegra hubs so I would not receive my new wheels in time for Christmas" but I was assured delivery during the week after Christmas. It has been over a month since my credit card was charged and still no wheels and no completion/ship date. They will not/do not return phone calls. They will NOT provide urgently requested build status and completionship dates via email.
I do not expect to receive the new wheels at all.
I normally build my own wheels (with great satisfaction) but I was recovering from (October) triple bypass surgery.
Please provide opinions and suggestions for selecting a wheel builder.

How about going to a local bike shop? They will not be able to avoid your complaints considering you have direct communications with them. Having a set of wheels built by an online company seems like a bad idea to me.

This is yet another recommendation for building your own wheels! Nobody is going to make a wheel for you as good as you can make it for yourself. A LBS will call it a wheel after 45 min/1 hour. You will take all the time it takes to true it and dish it to perfection, while keeping the spokes straight. Nobody's going to do that for money.
As it seems, someone is just going totake the money and build no wheel at all.

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!
Among the more well known internet/mail order places, Colorado Cyclist has a very good reputation for their custom built wheels.
My son-in-law has a pair of Open Pros laced with DT 14/15/14 DB spokes to 32 hole Ultegra hubs and I have a set of CXP-33 rims laced with the same spokes to 32 hole Campy Chorus hubs. Both sets were built by Colorado Cyclist and both have been absolutely trouble free. His have 10,000+ miles and mine have 3500 miles and neither has needed any attention from a spoke wrench.
Obviously that's only two data points but our experience confirms what we have heard from others.
To the OP: I'd get in touch with your credit card company right away and have the charges reversed.

I've had good luck with CC also for 2 sets of wheels.

Thank you very much for your responses and suggestions.
I am glad I used a credit card instead of my debit card. I have contacted the credit card customer service and they are sending forms appropriate for disputing the charge.
Since I now have the OK from my cardiologist, I shall gather the components (already have all tools) and build the wheels myself.
I have become very apprehensive about ordering from a company that charges a "restocking/cancellation" fee. I am suspicious that the scam is to take an order (possibly no intention of filling it), perpetrate cancellation by putting the customer off untill cancellation, and collect the "restock/cacellation" fee with no expediture/effort.
TRUST has become obsolete for me.......Please be cautious!

Check out WebCyclery, I had Mean Todd build a rear eno eccentric wheel.
I had no problems, I would use them again if I needed a wheel built.

I've had three wheelsets built up by the folks at SpeedGoat and a couple sets by my local grouch. I've also had a couple machine built / Nashbar sets, all of which have held up quite well.

Frankly, wheelbuilding is realy simple - I don't understand why would people resort to using otside service for such a well-documented and straightforward operation.

One possible explanation for why hubs are so cheap on E-bay is that the owners have made the same discovery. They can't afford to build them up compared to buying complete wheels.

Your LBS gets his parts wholesale (or at least at distributor cost), which is better than you can do as an individual, but they only order a few sets at a time. CC, Excel, etc, order hundreds or thousands of rims and spokes at a time. It's obvious who has the better cost structure and who can sell for less.

I agree that the economics are tough. I'd love to have my wheels handmade from my LBS. However, they will charge me full retail for all of the components. I can gete a handmade set of wheels through AE Bike for less than the cost of components alone (even if I buy cheap through discount web retailers).
