Swaping Record RD cage...any tips/tricks?
Ok so I will be swapping out my 2006 Campy Record short cage for a medium cage.
Duh I know have to install a derailleur, that is not what I am asking here...since you can get parts for Campy I saved half the cost of the RD and just got the pully cage assembly. So if you have any tips or tricks for this process I should be aware of please chime in.
Thanks

This is a good plan, I'd just modify chain length, the rest should be ok. Can I ask why you are doing this out of curiosity? It will be interesting how this will affect shifting performance as people always go on about longer cage meaning more sluggish shifts. I reckon it will be just the same for what it's worth!

Well I am making the switch because I went from a compact crank to a std double. To get the gearing I need for bigger climbing rides I need to put a 13-29 on the back and Campy says use the Med cage RD with the 53/39 front and 13-29 in the back. I just built the bike a couple of months ago and I intentionally left an extra link in the chain because I knew I was going to need the Med cage RD.
Another thing I like about Campy is the med cage RD as an in between option...I already have one on my Centaur bike and honestly I can't tell a difference in chrispness or speed of the shifting.
I am more talking about any tips or tricks in the process of disassembling the current RD to swap on the med pully cage assembly.

Ah. Sorry. I should've known you wouldn't need mere mortal tips
I've only ever played around with springs in rear mechs, I haven't ever changed cages on the same mech. The spring goes on a lot easier one way than the other - there you go, a tip!!!
