Periodically, when I am pedaling, the chain/chainring acts as if i changed gears when I have not done so. It feels and sounds like a gear changed, but it hasn't, I have just been pedaling. Please help me to resolve this problem, and thanks in advance for your help.

edit: I have a chain/chainring problem not a chain/crank problem. sorry
