Gyro Problem

I have a Mongoose Motivator 2005 model. Thats the 2008 verison but almost just like it. My problem is that there isnt enough room to fit a gyro on. Is there anything I can do to fit a gyro on like new parts anything.

You'll probably have better luck on the BMX board. Some of these guys don't have any idea what you are talking about and really think that it is a sandwich.

I know what it is but I don't have enough experience to advise you about retro fitting one onto your bike.

Ask about 3 piece cranks and see what kind of answers you get. Responses aren't very helpful when they're wrong.

what do you mean by there not enough room ? you need to remove the upper cup/cone off the headset , put the giro part there then replace the part i told you remove . do you have the info. that came with your giro 's set ?

You do not need a gyro on a bike. You keep it upright by constant steering corrections, not by using a spinning mass to stabilize it.

Not that I've ever worked on BMX, 'cause I haven't. But, how much room do you need? It looks like you need a longer steerer. What is the stack height of the gyro? I'm assuming you can get one that will act as spacers for the threadless headset.

I thought GIRO was "tour" as in Giro d' Italia.

Ok, here's a real answer to your problem. Well, not an answer, but a different problem for you.
Assuming your brakes on the 05 Mongoose that you have are the same as the brakes on the 08 you posted, a GYRO won't work. GYRO's aren't really designed for use w/ V-Brakes. It can be done, but it's tricky & you'd need even more room for the GYRO to travel than you would w/ U-Brakes. And as you mentioned, you seem to have trouble with that as it is.
Your best solution for now is to switch to a Odyssey Linear cable & keep it a bit long.
That cable doesn't bind or lock up when the bars have been spun.

+1 to wds178- It appears that the bike doesn't have gyro tabs on the headtube. (You could work around this; however, with v-brakes, it's probably more trouble than it's worth.) In my shop, we set up bmx v-brakes with a long enough housing to be able to flip the bar 360 without binding. Hope this helps..

Thanks that was sort of what I was thinking last night. I think I am just gonna get the Odyssey Linear cable and keep it long. Anyways its cheaper too.

Bikes: 2004 Norco Wolverine (Blue) set up with Semi-Slicks. Mid-1970's Raleigh, converted to single seed, (soon to be) all white.

or, better yet, you can just run a front brake through the hollow stem-bolt.

I don't want a front brake. Read the post a little better next time.

A new fork with a quill stem should allow that to be fitted

Don't do that. There's a reason serious BMX bikes abandoned that set up long ago.
Just stick with the Odyssey Linear Cable until you feel it's time to upgrade to a new, good frame w/ U-Brake mounts. If you still want a GYRO at that time, you'll be better off.
