Calling All Mechanics

Ok, I have a serious question on this apparently infamous subject. Now before

the flaming and link posting begins let me prove that I’ve done my research…

X9 Trigger issues after cable change
https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=431455

X9 trigger problems
https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=431781

Sram Trigger Shifter dissasembly
https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=379784

SRAM x-9 2007 Assembly Problem
https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=370177

SRAM XO shifter difficulties
https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=376357

SRAM Shifter Schematics
https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=352816

and this one but its for the wrong year/model

https://www.sicklines.com/tech/howto/...ifter-rebuild/

Now that you have my research, brace your self for my excuses…

A) These threads did actually help a lot between there visual aids and different

testimonies from actual participants in this type of scenario I actually got

about 95% of it figured out.
2) I did my due diligence physically about 8 hours of it literally. Then

resorted to research then tried again. Now this...

And

C) In all this research I get mixed signals as any one would expect on a forum

(probably why they can be so effective). When I say mixed signals I mean some

claim successes some claim impossible send it in and some say throw it away use
(X product).

And now.... my question.

*pause for dramatic effect*
….
….
….
….
….

”If anyone HAS actually succeeded in reassembling there 07’ SRAM X-9 Shifters

after making the mistake of taking them apart. Can they give me a step by step

explanation and any other visual aids that could be useful?”

In advanced thanks for the help.

Try page 32 of the SRAM parts manual for an exploded parts diagram of an X9 shifter. It's the '08 catalog but it should give you some idea of how to proceed. You might try contacting the company for more info. That's about all I can do for you.

Good luck.

Your post would be easier to read if you didn't double space. Just type normally. The text will wrap to the next line.

I see Ill remember that. I'm not a frequent poster. (On any forum really)

as far as the exploded parts digram goes I've used it. It was helpful I know how it goes together for some reason I just can't figure out how. Feels like I'm trying to solve a Rubiks Cube, and I never was good at that.

Based on the thread title, a good mechanic would have never opened that shifter up.

Funny you say that. I'm not actually the one that opened it up. But besides that. Even good mechanics learned something or other the hard way and just for the record I don't claim to be a good mechanic. All though I do plan to learn. On the other, other hand a better mechanic could help me out instead of point out that I did something wrong, which I already stated. Don't get me wrong though I got no hard feelings toward you. Just stating the obvious in that you were stating the obvious. peace out

I've always like the following:

"Good judgment comes from experience.
Experience comes from bad judgment."

Anyone whose ever delt with mechanical devices has taken apart at least one or two things they shouldn't have.

Bikes: Trek 1000, two mtbs and working on a fixie for commuting.

How different are these from the X-7s from a couple of years back? Because I took a pair of those apart and had no trouble with them, except I couldn't get the shift number indicator back in and operable, but that was useless for me anyways.

They changed the model quite a bit right on 07' judging from the diagrams I've seen the newer ones are simpler and probably even easier to put together. Theres just some part of the puzzle I'm not seeing.
some flick of the wrist to catch the main spring or something. In any case as soon as I do figure it out
I'm going to relay what ever tutorial I use (build one of needs be) to the other bike forums I peruse to help unfortunate mechanics like myself in the future. So this ordeal might not turn out to be a bad one. lol

I haven't messed with SRAM components much, but yeah I'd take one apart if it was giving me problems.

Take a carefull look at your sicklines link and step 5 of the reassembly, looks like there could be a couple of ways to reassemble it incorrectly. It's possible that your shifter has a new variation from their designers.

Post some pics of what you have so far if you can, maybe someone can see something.
