Pedal thread size question

hello all, I have a mid-80's Fuji Del Ray and I want to replace the pedals with something more modern. Some of the pedals I have looked at said they had 9/16ths thread and I was wondering if that is a standard thread size.

Does 9/16ths refer to the diameter of the threaded part of the bolt or something else?

Thanks for your time.

Some one piece cranks (usually kids bikes) use 1/2" threads. Most quality bikes are going to take 9/16" threads. And yes, it refers to the diameter of the pedal threads that screw into the crank arm.

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

If your bike has a "three piece" crank it almost certainly takes 9/16"-20 tpi pedals which is the standard for anything but the lowest quality kids and Department Store bikes.

BTW, be aware that all left pedals are left-hand threaded so they threads in and remove the opposite way from common threads.

+1 9/16 inch is standard for adult bikes, except for some really cheap ones. Your Fuji will be 9/1 inch.
