Ok - first things first, I know its a rubbish frame

Winter's coming and I enjoy building bikes enough to put together a different beater each year for the daily commute.

I thought this project would be easy but now suspect the non-standard headset means this old frame ends up back in the same bin I got it from Shame - I kind of like it.

Have researched it to death and nothing. Any help would be really appreciated.

Frame: Merida 905 Extreme 60cm

Upper head tube: semi-integrated (guessing)
OD:46.2mm
ID: 41.7mm
Bore depth:2.1mm shallow

Lower head tube:
OD:46.2mm
ID:41.7mm
Bore depth: 7.5mm deep

Also I'm guessing from the wear marks there is a split crown race which gives the required running surface for the bearing - an idea I pinched from bikeradar.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a shot. Would be a real eye-opener if the taiwanese used a campy standard but like you say, that's what the measurements suggest ...

Nice one - the link to YST is handy, I never heard of G-Force before. I'm guessing it needs a 1 1/8" steerer though.
1" would be ideal as it'd give me a chance to pull the 1" Kinesis carbon fork off the fixi :-)

That frame definitely takes a 1 1/8" steerer. Neither of the two headsets linked to in post #3 will work. You need an integrated headset which has no separate bearing cups. Something like this: https://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...&category=2813 (again, run through the Cane Creek site steps to be certain of the headset style)

The Pedal Force frame (Taiwan made CF frame) that I commute uses a "Campy" style integrated headset. Don't let the name fool you. Frames using that style of headset have little to do with the Italian brand.
