Headset pieces help please

So someone removed my headset and stole my fork the other day. I do not have any experience with headsets and could certainly use some help. Since I already need a new fork I am trying to save as much as I can on this headset. The question is, with the pieces I still have remaining as you can see in the picture, can I purchase part of the appropriate cane creek headset, or will I need an entirely new one. Thank you very much for your time and patience with a rookie like me. Update: The bicycle is a Salsa Casseroll...700c 1-1/8 in threadless. The S-1 Cane Creek headset is now called the 10 series EC34.

I don't know your headset well enough to form a reliable opinion based on the photo.

However, the one part you would definitely be missing is the crown race which was pressed onto the fork. Odds are both frame cups are still there, so you need to look for the two bearings, ant the various parts ofor the upper stack. (If this is a cartridge bearing headset, odds are the two bearings are still safely in the frame cups.

I suggest you email Cane Creek, and they'll probably be able to send you the crown race, and whatever other parts you're missing, if any.

Yep, Sent an email to Crane Creek with the same picture and info and couple hours ago. Waiting for a response from them, and will update thread then...assuming they are willing and able to help me.

headsets are not expensive - get the whole thing, as some of the parts you still have may have been damaged. Even a little bit of non-visible damage will adversely affect the feel of your bike. This is not the place too save a few cents.

+1 Amazon sells complete Cane Creek 10-series headsets for $31 and the better quality 40-series for $41. Sourcing the individual missing parts will probably cost at least that much and, as noted, the old ones may be damaged.

OTOH the OP may only be missing the crown race and star nut, that went with the fork, and there's no reason to assume the rest were damaged. So if all are present and accounted for, there's no reason to spend more than the cost of the crown race. Plus, not buying a new headset means not having to pay for the installation.

Assuming the 4 black rings on the right are spacers, I'd guess the others are the top dust cap, a shim, and either a bearing or the compression cone.
So you need the crown race, at least one bearing and either a bearing or compression cone. Plus star nut and top cap.

A few cane creek (higher end?) models, have an interloc spacer ring interface, in the top race also interlocking spacer rings..

Kind of like tongue and groove rings.. so to have spacers act like a whole when plugged into each other..

too bad about the stripping parts off your bike when locked up. that sucks..

NB: Pitlock has a keyed bolt and top cap, that would require a specific key wrench-socket to take it apart , (and adjust the pre load).. top cap ...

Thanks for the help everyone. Doesn't look like I have enough pieces to salvage this headset (maybe the spacers can be reused). I think I'm going to get a cheap, unappealing replacement fork, and a decent headset replacement. Should be able to get away with it on the cheap. That combined with some serious diy theft deterrents should get the job done. I can't see someone taking the time to dig out a ball bearing, or cutting a chain just to take my saddle...at least they shouldn't have the time where I'll be parking it from now on.
