Need help pricing wheelset

Hi guys,

I need some help pricing a lightly-used wheelset I'm selling. They are from '86, Maillard hubs with helicomatic sprocket in the rear. 36 hole single-walled brushed alum rims with eyelets and 700x40 touring tires (in decent shape).

Any idea what I should be asking for these? Can sell the rear wheel tonight for $20, but that seems low considering the cheapest of cheap rear wheel new will run you anywhere near $30.

Tried posting in C&V but it's not getting any attention.

Thanks,

Andrew

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

If these are used wheels I'd say take the $20.00 while it's still on the table. This is an obsolete wheel with a now rare freewheel which cannot be modernized.

If it's in beautiful condition, you might hold out for a collector, or someone who wants the Helicomatic freewheel and lockring more than the wheel, but otherwise nobody's going to buy this for a wheel to use.

The guy I'm selling it to does not want the freewheel and lockring... he just wants a wheel to throw on a bike he has a motor hooked up to.

So, my best bet might be to remove the freewheel and lockring, sell the wheel for 20 (any more than this?), and then try to find a collector online to sell the freewheel, lockring, and tool to.

Opinions?

I would give it to the guy along with the freewheel.

If you were selling on ebay and had to ship, you would get more for the front wheel alone than for the wheelset.

Single wheel ships in a "regular" box, (EDIT: EXCEPT IN CANADA, where that's oversized as well); wheelset ships in an "oversized", and the rear wheel is just not desireable.

So $20 for the rear wheel alone, and you don't have to do any work, take it. Freewheel, tool, etc, is worth something to others. He'd probably just toss 'em.
