noisy rear wheel

got used wheel for my mtn bike. had shimano xt hub before. new wheel has shimano acera fh-m290 hub. seems to squeek under load. i took apart axle and cones look a little shaky. not super smooth. bearings seem ok. the old wheel was whisper quiet and 19 years old with never a single tuneup or adjustment. rim actually broke due to fatigue cracks. talked to bike shop and they said a new wheel/hub will fix it. they could even rebuild wheel with my xt hub but that means new spokes and $$. i just want a quiet wheel. don't abuse bike. all pavement easy miles. but this funky wheel is annoying.

took off wheel today and swapped on another wheel. would not shift right so i put first wheel on. went for ride. squeak is 99% gone. was wheel slightly askew on frame? changed nothing except taking off and putting it back on.
