clamp on shifters for OS downtube?

Hi folks. I've got an early nineties schwinn crosscut hybrid that I've set up with drop bars. I'd like to replace the trigger shifters with something different and I was thinking maybe clamp on downtube shifters. The tubing is oversize true temper steel and I'm not sure if this is going to give me trouble. Is this doable? The components are shimano 400 lx mtb seven speed stuff. Thanks!

All the clamp-on downtube shifters I've ever seen were for "standard" 1-1/8" steel downtubes. You might be able to modify the clamp to fit the larger downtube but I think it's going to be a custom job. Here is one source for downtube shifters and note they are all 1-1/8". there is one set that is 7-speed indexing: https://www.loosescrews.com/index.cgi...id=81199521632
