Desperate for urgent help!
Hi all
I'm having a major problem with the back rail of my bike not turnng over, the gears just are not responding!
the gears hav e been slipping quite a bit lately but intensified when I reinstalled my back wheel after a tyre change. First of the front gears would rub against the rail so I tightened the front cable, then I tried to tweek the rear high low screws and cable but it's made things a whole worse, so much so that the rear gears won't even change!
Got a 54 mile bike ride ( London to brighton ) this weekend fir charity and I'm desperate to do it for the first time. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

There's a heap of adjustment help at www.parktool.com/repair . Hover your mouse over the derrailleur part of the bike and click.
You've obviously really screwed things up by now and just got more and more panicy with each mistake. Take your time and start dead on at the beginning and work up without missing any steps. Even if you just need to confirm before moving on do each thing as stated and in the order stated.
If you still can't do it and you can't figure out where you went wrong then just give up and take it to a bike shop.

I have no idea what a rail is in a bicycle drive train. Check this link https://casanovasadventures.com/catalog/bike/p2016.htm or others available by searching for "bicycle parts diagram" and use standard terminology in the future - thanks.
To make sure the "rail" (and the rest of your bike) is ready for such a ride please get it adjusted properly once then take advantage of the resources listed under READ THIS at the head of this forum to learn for the future. Combining written/photo help with videos should get you well on your way.

That is the common terminology, maybe rail is more common outside of U.S. I've never before read or heard rail used in that context. Unfortunately the initial post is no more illuminating with that definition of rail.
