The Raleigh Record is one of the more common bikes you can find from the '70s. There were thousands and thousands of them sold. You can likely find another same or similar quality complete bike for the same you paid.
$40 is actually quite a lot to pay for a rusty 10 speed frame, I am sorry to say.

Has anyone seen a frame fail or have some other problem from lack of a brake bridge? If I weren't using a rear brake I'd be tempted to just ride it as is if that's the only problem, but I'm pretty light.
