Eggbeater rebuild question

I have one of the first generations of eggbeaters (with the rubber end caps). Can I use a rebuild kit for the 2003 and newer versions? They have the aluminum end cap, which I don't need to use, but are the rest of the parts compatible?

Thank you.

Chris

I'm not sure, but I think, that the ones without an end cap that does not have a screw slot in it, are not meant to be rebuildable.

Bikes: Cinelli Supercoursa 69, Ritchey Breakaway Cross, Mondonico Diamond Extra 05, Coors Light Greg Lemond (built by Scapin) 88, Scapin MTB, Stumpjumper 83, Specialized Stumpjumper M4, Lemond Poprad 2001

Go on line and ask. I just rebuilt a set of candy pedals and it was easy. You may need to pry out the endcap. Crank bros are good about answering queries.

IME, CB customer service has been excellent, so try asking them. But why bother, as long as 2002 rebuild kits are available?

Only CBs not rebuildable that I know of are the Smartys.

I have the SL's with the screw-in end cap and just rebuilt them. You might be able to use the bushing and bearing from the post-02 kit, but the 02 EB's with the rubber endcap have an allen-head screw in the end of the spindle, where the later pedals have threads on the end of the spindle for a locknut. As long as you can reuse your allen screw, you should be good.

Here's a video showing the 02 rebuild with the setscrew: https://www.crankbrothers.com/support..._eggbeater.php

I would send them back to CB and let them rebuild it. You pay for the kit and shipping one way.
