Centaur BB spindle length

I am in the middle of a project and among other issues it now appears I have the wrong BB. the frame is a '82ish Bianch, Italian BB shell.

I wanted to use a set of gently used Centaur cranks I purchased. I did a little research (maybe too little) and it appeared the correct BB spindle was 111mm.

I have not torqued the right arm just yet but I have about 5-6mm of space between the inner chainwheel and the chainstay. this seems far to me or is just because it is an older frame.

the cranks just say Centaur on the outside, on the inner surface there is a 2 and a 4 then at the spindle end 54 in a circle.

a second question is.. what is the correct torque value for this crankset?

thankis for your help.

IIRC, the correct length is 111. 5-6mm sound about right for chain ring placement from the chainstay. What is the spacing of the frame? If it was old enough to be 126mm then it is probably normal to have a bit space between the chainstay and the chainring. Also, aren't italian threaded bb shells normally spec'ed at 70mm? That would put the chainrings a little further out than what one would find on an english threaded bb shell which is normally spec'ed at 68mm.

The next size down for Campy is 102mm (record/chorus) that would probably not work for you.

How does your chainline match up with the center of your cassette?

The correct chainline measurements for Centaur 9spd and 10spd double cranksets with a symmetrical 111mm bb is 43.5mm

For torque...The correct value is between 23.6lb-ft to 28lb-ft (32NM to 38NM).

with the age of your frame (circa 82) it may even be originally spaced narrower than 126mm if it originally came with a 5 speed freewheel.

AH thank you so much!!! I went to check the spacing and the chainline, but no FW yet. I decided to torque the crank and remeasure.... then I noticed it, the chainstay is CRIMPED!!! measuring to the tube it is still about 4-5mm but if the tube was not crimped it would be about 2-3mm.

thank god I don't think I could take another issue with this project.
