need help replacing back tire

Hi, I'm new to this forum and to biking. I inherited a Trek Antelope from a friend and want to replace the back tire so I can use a trainer this winter. Is it very difficult to do? I looked at the Trek website and found the owner's manual, but couldn't download the plug-in to watch the movie for how to remove the derailer. Any help (including telling me to take it to the shop) is welcomed. Thanks!

You do not need to remove the derailer; you need to get the cassette gears unhooked from the chain. Anyway, I think you will find all you need to know at this link. You can change a tire without using tire levers unless your fingers are old and full of arthritis. I use tire levershttps://www.parktool.com/repair_help/...ex.shtml#wheel

Good luck,
Doc

Please don't do this if you have aluminum rims. You can scratch or gouge them. Only use plastic tire levers.

well, yea int he end. a plastic tire lever is really the best hting, only use the spoon suggestion when you need it. I forgot where but i picked up a 3 pack of tire levers for 3 dollras. they are cheap little plastic things but hey, they work for me
