Currently I have a frame with a 1-1/8" treadless fork, on a fsa orbit headset, and a no-name stem. I would like to switch to a threaded fork and I have been running into problems. Here is what I think I know.

1. Ill need a new headset, including races. FSA doesn't make a 1-1/8" threaded headset or the bearing races might be compatible. What are the chances that any 1-1/8" threaded headset (I know they are rare) would use compatible bearings?

2. How do I measure the fork for the stearer tube length?

3. I know that 1-1/8" threaded headsets and forks are rare, can I just switch to a 1" by popping the races out and slamming new ones in or do I need an adapter?

You need a ruducer bushing for a 1" steerer/HS. Steerer length = headtube length + HS stack height + any spacers you use. A bit long won't hurt anything,just take up the extra with spacers.11/8" Threaded HS aren't so rare,as they were standard fare in MTB for years.

If they were popular with MTB's, were they still using a standard quill, and a 1" fork?

If not wont it be hard to find a 1-1/8" threaded fork that isn't an MTB fork?

The mtb threaded stuff was BOTH 1 and 11/8". I don't know of many if any 11/8" road threaded forks or road quill stems..What's the pont it this endeavour anyway?

Well, you are not likely to get poseur',bling or chi-chi points with a threaded setup these days, except maybe from Grant Petersen.

You need to buy a King reducing headset, then get their threadless to threaded conversion kit and you are good to go. All for 135 bones.

Too much money for too little benefit.

Could I just thread my current road fork, or would the ID not fit typical quills? Right and my current road fork is alu, so I would need to thread a different one.

You can thread a cromo steerer if you can find someone to do it right, like a framebuilder,but not LBS.I wouldn't thread aluminum.www.parktool.com has the minimum steerer thickness you need to have for threading. Personally, I would just forget it. You spend alot and gain NOTHING.

word. Threadless are just big and clunky, I ride a bike because it isn't an SUV.

This is the only threadless stem that I have seen that isnt an uggo.

umm, then get it. because even if you drop 200 bucks on a custom vanilla stem (i think thats what the picture is of), it'll still cost less then a conversion to a 1" threaded setup from a 1 1/8" unthreaded.
